Sphericality member Nancy Mulhearn wants to leave Parkinson’s Disease behind. And she’s organizing a fundraising gala to do just that.
“I was diagnosed, to my shock, with Young Onset Parkinson’s in 2006 at the age of 44,” says Nancy. “Parkinson’s Disease is an incurable, progressive, neurological illness that robs people of the ability to move normally. In time, the ability to smile is even lost.”
But Nancy is still smiling. “Sphericality’s classes have helped me tremendously,” she says. “I was worried about feeling intimidated, and that did not happen. There were some overwhelming moments during classes when I didn’t even feel like I had Parkinson’s. A few times, tears fell because that feeling to be able to move normally is an unbelievable gift.”
Nancy is a Mentor for Team Fox, the fundraising division of the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF). She is currently organizing her fifth “Leave Parkinson’s Behind” gala to benefit MJFF. The night’s festivities include a cocktail hour, dinner, silent/live auction, open bar, and live entertainment with dancing. This year’s theme is “Denim and Diamonds.”
Auction items include Tumi Luggage, “A Day at the Races” in a luxury box at Monmouth Race Track, and a visit to WCBS Studios in NYC for 4 including tour and viewing of a live broadcast of the news at noon – valued at $1,500. Sphericality has also generously donated a gift basket containing some very cool swag and a “Little Black Dress Challenge” gift certificate for May.
The event is expected to sell out with approximately 200 guests in attendance.

The “Leave Parkinson’s Behind” gala will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Farmhouse at the Grand Colonial from 5:30 pm – 10:30 pm. Tickets are $125 and can be purchased at http://www.leaveparkinsonsbehind.com.
