Hormonal Tug of War

Hormonal Tug of WarThe Hormonal Tug of War

Are you frustrated because it seems that no matter what you do, your midsection keeps expanding and losing it’s “girlish” shape? Are you thinking “Do I need to flip tires and run bleachers seven days a week to battle this muffin top that is spilling over my jeans and invading my world as I’ve known it?” Are you wondering why you are eating “like a bird” and still gaining weight (by the way, birds actually eat all day long and they eat a lot!).

May I shed a little light on this for you? Well, hopefully this may help to address your woes. And if you’re reading this and haven’t begun to experience the “battle of the bulge”, read on…because statistics say that one day you inevitably will and you CAN do something NOW to minimize the inevitable muffin top.  🙁

I’m not a doctor, or a scientist, or nutritionist (although I know many). I’m a 54 year young woman. I am a curious observer. I am a facilitator and re-creator if you will. I am a mother, daughter, sister, friend, partner, entrepreneur and student of life. I may have things in common with some of you ladies out there. But what I have in common with ALL women is that whether I want to or not, my body and I are going to go on a hormonal “tug of war journey of change.”

The Menopause Tug of War Trip

Menopause…that’s something that happens when you “get old”, your period stops and you get fat. You develop insomnia, are burdened with hot flashes for years (when you suddenly feel like you are melting from the inside out), start sprouting dark hairs on your face and lose hair on your head, have no sex drive and, and, and. It’s just the way it is, right? The fact of the matter is that all of this is very true. These things can and will happen to a different degree for every woman. But the other truth is that you are in control and can do all sorts of things to fight back and/or be proactive TODAY.

Physical activity, diet and stress all play important roles in how your body manifests hormonal changes. What you used to do simply may not work as it did before (unless you are one of those lucky minority chicks who hasn’t put on a centimeter around their middle and doesn’t know the meaning of HOT). I am going to be sharing with you some tips in my Blog to help you (and me…remember, I’m 54 the prime age) that I’ve gathered through research, personal experience and my work in the studio with hundreds of women like you over the past eight years.

Tip for today: Move, Move, Move! It’s important for you to be physically active seven days a week…YES, I said seven (remember that scene from Sound of Music where Julie Andrews learns that she will be a Governess to 7 kids?).

That doesn’t mean that you have to go to the gym every night after work and pump iron…try this mix for 2 weeks:

  • 1-2 days vigorous cardio (45-60 min)
  • 2 days moderate cardio (45-60 min)
  • 2 days strengthen/tone (60 min)
  • 1-2 days RESTORE/DE-STRESS.

See how you feel at the end of the week!

Join our next Little Black Dress Challenge and empower yourself to stay feeling, looking and BEING youthful. YES YOU CAN!!!
